Thank you to everyone who participated in the Port Washington Water District’s Pharmaceutical Drug Take-Back Day on October 25, 2025.
This year’s event was our most successful yet, with hundreds of residents turning out to safely dispose of more than 500 pounds of unused or expired medications. By keeping these substances out of our water system, we’re protecting both the health of our community and the quality of our local environment.
A huge thank-you to our incredible partners — including the Port Washington Police District, Town of North Hempstead, local villages, and community organizations — for helping make this year’s event such a success.
Together, we’re proving that small actions make a big impact when it comes to protecting our drinking water and keeping Port Washington safe.

On February 11, 2025, the Port Washington Water District, alongside the Roslyn Water District and Irrigation Association of New York,.hosted its fourth annual Irrigation Contractor Training Event. The goal of this yearly event is to educate irrigation contractors on the most effective ways to help customers in the area conserve water and follow the District’s mandatory 2025 irrigation requirements. This year’s event was especially crucial, as both Districts now require all automatic irrigation systems within their service territories to be fitted with a smart irrigation controller.
We thank all of the irrigation contractors who joined us for this year’s event. Together, we explored innovative conservation practices, including our Smart Irrigation Requirement. This partnership is a great example of the impact we can have when we work together.
